5 hacks I use to rise above negative emotions
My Father is southern and 74...that means he has lots of sayings. Two of my favorites are:
When you don't feel good - dress up! The complements will keep you going.
When you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you do better.
Both of these healing methods involve using the power of style to elevate your thinking and the course of your day, past your emotions. If we went around living each moment by how we felt, we may not get nearly as much done. Our productive days would look more like,
Snooze
Sleep In
Breakfast in Bed
To-Do list aka Suggestion List
Relaxing
Having as much Fun as possible
Happy Hour
Staying up late
Okay, maybe I'm just talking about me. But if you've ever woken up not feeling too good, emotionally just needing a break, and still dug into your inner strength to get things done, we may have a lot in common. These are my 5 ways that I rise above my emotions and crush the day and get things done! Let me know what you think in the comments below.
ONE
Wearing a piece of clothing or an outfit that makes me feel good. -- No more saving special pieces for an occasion or event. We may be distanced for a while so let's keep looking the way that makes us feel special.
TWO
Eating breakfast. There was a time in my life when I wasn't a breakfast person. Early call times on set just didn't match my appetite. But eating breakfast truly is the most important meal. It jumpstarts your brainpower and your energy level. Two things needed to usher in the day you desire.
THREE
Complain to God and not just to friends. Complaining to friends usually gets us an echo, confirmation that our feelings are valid. Which is a fair and healthy process. But in addition to the phone a friend, also call on God. There's something about complaining to God that turns your words of frustration into a prayer.
FOUR
Listening to Music. I'm talking about that song that makes you jump out of your seat and say, "That's my sooong!" Next thing you know, your hips will start moving, your legs get to wobbling, and the kitchen is a dance floor!
FIVE
Make a gratitude list. Seriously, gratitude literally will change your attitude. Write it down or say the list out loud. I am grateful for food in my fridge and the ability to buy more when I need it. I am grateful that even though we are separated my family is healthy. I am grateful video chatting was invented because I sure do love seeing their faces.
